[ARCHIVED] New Recology Rates Go Into Effect July 1, 2023

Residents will see increased solid waste fees starting in July.

Background

The City’s previous contract with Cleanscapes/Recology was signed in 2012, with extremely low rates due to the economy and competition at the time. This put the collection rates in Issaquah significantly lower than neighboring cities. The City exercised all extensions to keep rates for our residents as low as possible, but that contract ends June 30, 2023.

The City launched a two-week customer survey in March 2022 to get input from residents about what they valued most in this next contract.

Based on that feedback and the proposals from multiple regional haulers, City Council chose to create a new contract with Recology which did include an increase in rates, but also an increase in overall level of service. That contract goes into effect July 1, 2023.

The new contract rates are competitive within the Puget Sound region. All Cities who recently entered into new contracts with solid waste haulers are experiencing a significant increase in customer rates.

Discounts

Discounts are available to qualifying residents.

Limited Income Household Utility Discount- Eligible households who enroll in Puget Sound energy's HELP program and take advantage of the utility discount offered by the City, can get an annual $100 rebate check from Recology.
Limited Income Senior Utility Discount- Eligible seniors who take advantage of the utility discount offered by the City can get 75% off their total garbage bill.
