[ARCHIVED] Keep Wildlife Wild

Coyote Sighting Central_news

Issaquah is surrounded by natural beauty and nature, which includes wildlife. Living in close proximity to wildlife has its own responsibilities. Our Parks and Community Services Department has observed an increase in a number of residents leaving out scraps of food for wildlife, including coyotes.

Feeding wildlife poses risks for animals and for humans, including:

  • Increasing the chance of avoidable conflict with humans. Fed animals can lose their fear of humans and may become aggressive in search of provided food.
  • Providing animals with food that is not their natural diet and can cause severe health issues, including starvation and death.
  • Creating larger unintended consequences to the environment and community that you cannot anticipate or control.

Learn more on our Living With Wildlife page or contact Park Ranger Alex Anderson with questions.
