[ARCHIVED] Traffic Alert: Newport Way NW

There are two active projects that will impact traffic along Newport Way Northwest, east of NW Oakcrest Drive.

Traffic on a portion of Newport Way NW between NW Oakcrest Drive and 17th Ave NW will be restricted to one lane in each direction with flaggers controlling traffic from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. No lane closures will occur on City observed holidays. Delays and minor congestion are to be expected.

Both projects are supporting transportation and safety needs in the area. The first is constructing a raised intersection at the King County Cougar Precipice Trailhead as well as a pedestrian bridge over Anti-Aircraft Creek. The second project is moving overhead utilities underground in order to construct a retaining wall to in 2023 to prevent landslides along the corridor. Landslides in 2020 and 2022 closed this section of Newport Way Northwest.

Following the completion of the City project, King County will be completing new parking lot and amenity updates at the Cougar Precipice Trailhead. That work is projected to happen in Spring 2023.
