[ARCHIVED] Land Conservation: Squak Mountain Estates

Squak Mountain Estates

The City recently completed the acquisition of the 20-acre parcel of land for conservation and trail connectivity purposes known as Squak Mountain Estates.

"Squak Mountain Estates is a wonderful addition to our protected public lands around Issaquah. By preserving riparian habitat from potential development and by becoming stewards of a key connector between the nearby State Park and the downtown community, we continue to progress with our climate goals and make more of our natural environment accessible to folks in our community," said Mayor Mary Lou Pauly.

The property sites adjacent to Squak Mountain State Park and the City limits.

Washington State Parks have stated they are supportive of exploring trail connectivity through this site and into Squak Mountain State Park which will provide additional opportunities for connection from Olde Town to the state park.

The property has been slated for development numerous times over the past few years until the City's purchase. This acquisition will now protect riparian habitat along Cabin Creek (a salmon bearing tributary to Issaquah Creek) and preserves 20 acres of upland habitat, while upholding climate goals of tree canopy preservation, stormwater runoff, and carbon sequestration.

Questions related to the purchase or future trail connectivity plans can be emailed to Jennifer Fink, Park Planner.
