[ARCHIVED] City of Issaquah to Open Cooling Center


High Heat
With forecasted temperatures of over 90 degrees expected starting later this week, the City of Issaquah is opening a cooling center at the Issaquah Senior Center this coming Thursday, August 12, and Friday, August 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Please spread the word to those who may need a cool place in the upcoming days.

Other cities and organizations have also set up cooling centers. Visit King County Emergency Management's website to view regional options. 

Please stay safe and check on your neighbors, relatives and those vulnerable to extreme temperatures.   

To Reduce or Prevent the Onset of Heat Illnesses:

  1. Drink plenty of water – recommended amount is 1 cup per 15 minutes or 1 quart per hour.
  2. Know the signs/symptoms of heat-related illness (listed below); monitor yourself and co-workers.
  3. Block out direct sun or other heat sources.
  4. Use cooling fans/air conditioning, rest regularly.
  5. Wear lightweight, light colored, loose fitting clothes.
  6. Avoid alcohol, caffeinated drinks or heavy meals.
