[ARCHIVED] Plastic Bags: New Statewide Ban Starts Jan. 1, 2021

While the City of Issaquah has had a ban on single-use plastic bags since 2014, the State Legislature has passed its own statewide bag ban in 2020.

This means that starting on Jan. 1, 2021, the Citywide plastic bag ban will be replaced with the state ban, increasing the fee on reusable paper or plastic bags from 5 cents to 8 cents. Most grocery stores and retailers in Issaquah are allowing customers to bring their own bags, though you may need to bag your own groceries.

Issaquah led the way with our City’s ban several years ago and the statewide ban is another step towards stronger environmental stewardship statewide.
