Call Summary: The City of Issaquah invites professional artists/artist teams to submit their qualifications for consideration to create functional artwork for the City’s new Tibbetts Valley Off-Leash Dog Park. The public art project budget is $25,000 for functional artwork to enhance the park – with a primary focused on park entrance(s). The selected artist/artist team will work with the City of Issaquah Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department and the Arts Commission through the artwork development and installation process.
Site Description: The artwork will be a component of the new Tibbetts Valley Dog Park. This off- leash dog park was identified as priority project for City Parks, following an extensive public engagement process in 2018-19. Tibbetts Valley Park is a thirty-acre active recreational community park with athletic fields, tennis courts, basketball court and a children’s playground. The park is located at 965 12th Ave. N.W. and easily accessed from exit 15 of I-90 and from SR 900.
Artwork Requirements: The artwork should enhance the aesthetics of the dog park, be functional and primarily focused on the entrance area(s). Works in a variety of media and forms will be considered. Artwork should require limited maintenance and withstand the area’s climate. Artwork should be durable to withstand the high level of activity of the dog park.
Artwork Locations: Potential areas include, but are not limited to, gates, fencing, entry pavers.
Budget: The total budget for the project is $25,000. Budget is inclusive of all artist fees, travel, design, insurance, permits, materials, fabrication, labor and installation.
Anticipated Timeline:
- Deadline for submissions: Wednesday, March 25, 2020 by 5:00 p.m.
- Proposed selection notification: April 15, 2020.
- Contract initiation and design: Q2-3, 2020.
- Fabrication and Installation: Q3-early Q4, 2020

Artist Qualifications/Eligibility:
- Applicants must have past experience integrating art into built environments.
- Applicants must live in Washington State.
Selection Criteria:
- Quality and strength of past public artwork, as demonstrated in application materials;
- Proven ability to coordinate and collaborate with project managers, design teams and community stakeholders in a public art process;
- Demonstrated success delivering public art on time and within budget.
