Welcome: New Councilmember Barbara de Michele

Congratulations to Councilmember Barbara de Michele, who was formally sworn in Nov. 26, 2019 to serve in her elected seat (following certification of the 2019 King County Elections). Position No. 3 was previously held by an appointed member. She will represent Issaquah residents for the remainder of a two-year term on the Issaquah City Council.

She has lived in Issaquah, primarily the Olde Town neighborhood, for nearly 35 years. de Michele previously served two terms on the Issaquah School Board. She has led numerous civic organizations, as well as the City’s Arts Commission. She retired from the King County Department of Transportation and, more recently, served as Director of the Issaquah Schools Foundation Healthy Youth Initiative.

de Michele is focused on helping Issaquah become more affordable; improving roads and transit; increasing alternative mobility measures; and helping Issaquah’s human services and nonprofits cope with increased demand for services.

“I want Issaquah to remain the warm and welcoming place it was when I arrived here 35 years ago,” she said. “We need to balance excellent infrastructure improvements with equally sound human services and neighborhood connections.”

Barbara’s son John, daughter-in-law Dianne, and two grandchildren live in Covington.

de Michele was also ceremoniously sworn in during the Dec. 2 City Council meeting.
