[ARCHIVED] Update: Newport Roundabout Construction

The new roundabout is almost complete along Newport Way Northwest near Northwest Pacific Elm Drive, weather permitting.

From 8:45 a.m.-3:45 p.m. Nov. 5-8, crews will be alternating one-way traffic on Newport – both near the roundabout and at the Riva development site near Northwest Oakcrest Drive. While the flaggers will be coordinating, drivers should expect delays.

For the roundabout project, crews will be paving the area, finishing sidewalks, installing permanent signs and painting temporary striping.

Meanwhile, final striping for the roundabout is anticipated for early December, when crews will also activate the rapid flashing beacons at the Newport crosswalks. Following that work, the Newport crossings will be open for use.

The crossing on the north side of the roundabout, which is part of the Mountain to Sound Greenway Trail, is scheduled for paving in the next few weeks, weather permitting. The completion of the unfinished sections is subject to franchise utility relocation.

Issaquah is also working with the developer to install temporary lighting until permanent lighting, currently on order, is installed in February. New landscaping is slated for installation next spring.

The new roundabout features multi-use pathways, as well as crosswalks for the roadways. On-street bikes may merge with traffic to travel through the roundabout, or use ramp connections from the road to the multi-use trails and crosswalks (see grey area in image).
