[ARCHIVED] Get Outside: Enjoy Washington State Parks for Free

Enjoy Washington’s state parks for free Aug. 25, 2018.

You’re invited as the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission hosts a free day for state park visitors. Day-use visitors do not need a Discover Pass to visit state parks.

The event honors the 102nd birthday of the National Park Service, which was established on Aug. 25, 1916.

Such free days keep with legislation that created the Discover Pass, a $30 annual or $10 one-day permit required on lands managed by Washington State Parks, and the Washington departments of Natural Resources (DNR) and Fish & Wildlife (WDFW).

On free days, a Discover Pass is still required to access lands managed by DNR and WDFW on these days.

In addition, free days apply only to day-use visits with vehicles, not overnight stays or rented facilities.

Washington State Parks will have three more free days in 2018: Sept. 22, in recognition of National Public Lands Day, Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day, and Nov. 23rd, for Autumn Day.
