[ARCHIVED] Crews to Reline Sewer Mains This Summer

Crews will start relining 50-year-old sewer mains in portions of South Cove starting July 30.

The work area is located between 188th Avenue Southeast and Lake Sammamish, as well as 189th Place Southeast and Southeast 46th Street (see map).

This work, which will take place through August, will require temporary and localized shutdowns of the sewer system. The work will take place either between 8 a.m.-3 p.m. or 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Homeowners will be notified 24 hours in advance of any shutdown by door hanger.

Residents can continue to use their water during the shutdown, as long as the water connection does not connect to sewer. For example, drinking water and landscaping are OK, but please abstain from flushing toilets, doing laundry or taking a shower during the posted time on your door hanger. A dry sewer line is needed to complete this project!

Some residents may smell a non-toxic plastic odor during the work. This project requires inflating a plastic resin inside the sewer pipe. When heated, it cures to the inside of the sewer pipe. If a homeowner’s sewer trap is dry, or a sewer vent is clogged, plastic fumes may be apparent.
