The Issaquah Police Department is releasing the following information pursuant to RCW 4.24.550 and the Washington State Supreme Court decision in State v. Ward, which authorizes law enforcement agencies to inform the public of a sex offender’s release when, in the discretion of the agency, the release of information will enhance public safety and protection.
Benjamin Jacob Ballenger has been convicted of a sex offense that requires registration with the sheriff's office in the county of his residence. His previous criminal history places him in a classification level that reflects the potential to re-offend.
This sex offender has served the sentence imposed on him by the courts and has advised the King County Sheriff's Office that he will be living in Issaquah.
He is not wanted by the police at this time. This notification is not intended to increase fear; rather, it is the Issaquah Police Department's belief that an informed community is a safer community.
Issaquah Municipal Code 8.20.020 restricts where Level II and III sex offenders may reside within City limits. The person listed in this bulletin does not reside in a restricted area.
Citizens should refrain from threatening, intimidating or harassing registered sex offenders. Furthermore, such abuse could potentially end law enforcement's ability to notify the community.
