Issaquah City Council members welcomed their newest colleague May 2, 2016, as Mariah Bettise took the oath of office.
Bettise, a small business owner, has served on the City’s Human Services Commission and Economic Vitality commissions since 2013.
"I am seeking the City Council appointment because I am passionate about the City of Issaquah and have a strong commitment to public service and giving back to my community," she wrote in her council application.
Bettise, who was appointed by a unanimous vote of the council to the Position 2 seat, succeeds former Councilmember Jennifer Sutton.
The seat became vacant March 31, when Sutton resigned to accept a diplomatic assignment with the U.S. Foreign Service.
The appointee to the vacant seat will serve until the November 2017 general election is certified.
