[ARCHIVED] You're Invited: Free Day at Washington's State Parks

Enjoy Washington’s state parks for free Sept. 26, 2015.

You’re invited as the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission hosts a free day for state park visitors. Day-use visitors do not need a Discover Pass to visit state parks.

The free day is in recognition of the 22nd anniversary of National Public Lands Day — the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands.

Such free days keep with legislation that created the Discover Pass, a $30 annual or $10 one-day permit required on lands managed by Washington State Parks, and the Washington departments of Natural Resources (DNR) and Fish & Wildlife (WDFW).

On free days, a Discover Pass is still required to access lands managed by DNR and WDFW on these days.

In addition, free days apply only to day-use visits with vehicles, not overnight stays or rented facilities.

After National Public Lands Day, Washington State Parks will have one more free day in 2015: Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day.
