[ARCHIVED] - Reminder: School Zone Speed Cameras -

To increase safety and reduce speed violations near several Issaquah schools, the speed cameras along Second Avenue Southeast will be reactivated Sept. 1, 2015, in conjunction with the first day of school.

The photo enforcement program was not active during summer break. The cameras operate only during school days from 7 a.m.-4 p.m.

The cameras monitor both directions of traffic along Second Avenue near Clark Elementary, Issaquah High, Issaquah Middle and Tiger Mountain Community High schools.

Only vehicles that exceed the school zone’s speed limit of 20 mph are photographed and videotaped.

Before a $124 infraction is mailed to the speeding vehicle’s registered owner, Issaquah police review and confirm each violation.

The infraction is a non-criminal offense that, like a parking ticket, is not part of the violator’s driving record.

Drivers who receive an infraction have the option of paying the fine in full, requesting a hearing or submitting a declaration of non-responsibility.
