How to Apply: City Council Vacancy
Dec. 27, 2012: The City is seeking qualified candidates to fill a vacant position on the Issaquah City Council.
Councilmember Mark Mullet was recently elected to serve as Senator to Washington State’s 5th Legislative District and is anticipated to resign from his Position #1 Council seat on Jan. 8, 2013.
In order to be considered for the vacant council seat, qualified candidates must be:
- At least 18 years old.
- A registered voter.
- A resident of the City of Issaquah for at least one year prior to their appointment.
To apply, simply submit the following completed documents by Jan. 16, to the City Clerk’s Office via email (
e-mail) in person (City Hall, 130 E. Sunset Way); or mail (City Clerk’s Office, P.O. Box 1307, Issaquah, WA 98027):

Interviews Applicant verbal presentations are currently scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Jan. 22, in the Council Chambers located at 135 E. Sunset Way. The City Clerk will randomly draw the candidates’ names to determine the order of the interviews. Set time limits will be announced.
After the
interviews presentations that night, the Council may recess into executive session to discuss qualifications of the applicants. A vote to fill the vacancy will occur during the City Council’s next open public special meeting on Jan. 29 at 6 p.m.
Even though a new councilmember is anticipated to be appointed on Jan. 29, that doesn’t mean the person will serve the remainder of the term.
Instead, the appointed person will serve until a qualified person is elected during the November 2013 General Election, who will then serve the remainder of the term, which expires Dec. 31, 2013.
