Artist Nick Goettling Selected for Art Mural Project

Nick Goettling
In 2017, the City of Issaquah Arts Commission granted funding for a public art mural project to be installed adjacent to the Historic Shell Station. The judging panel, consisting of citizens, local business owners, non-profit representatives and City officials, received  applications from exceptionally talented mural artists from around the world.

Local artist Nick Goettling was selected to design and install the mural piece. Through sinuous linework, dynamic figures and evocative patterns, Nick uses his art to tell stories. Public spaces evolve and the stories about those spaces change, too. Nick uses his art to tell stories and activate those spaces by challenging viewers to consider their roles within those local narratives.

Nick grew up in the forests of Washington State and earned his degree in Fine Arts from the Evergreen State College with an emphasis on narrative drawing and painting. He helped found Platform Studios in Chicago and has since worked nationally while basing his art practice in the Puget Sound area. Nick has worked on both public and private projects throughout the country including McMenamins, the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, the cities of Portland and Tacoma, Northeastern Illinois University, Lagunitas and Stevens Point Brewing, Clif Bar and many others.

Installation of the mural piece is anticipated in summer 2018. Weather dependent, the project duration will be approximately three weeks.
